The New Zealand Games Association (NZGA) aims to encourage the development of the game industry in Aotearoa New Zealand, from game design & development, through publishing and sales.
We are focussed on physical games, including games with boards, cards, dice, tiles, blocks etc. These include all common board, card & family games, as well as quiz games, dexterity games and more. It does not include electronic or computer games, or jigsaw puzzles.
It’s our goal to expand the profile of games created in New Zealand, and support designers and inventors in getting their games out into the world, both locally and globally.
Take a moment to look around the site, and if you find it of interest, consider a membership.
Feel free to contact us too- we’re happy to discuss our favourite subject, games!
MORE DETAILS
For the last few years, several NZ games designers have been talking with each other with the intention of helping each other and the NZ Games ‘industry’. Following these discussions, it was decided to gather as many NZ games designers as possible to discuss how they could potentially work together for mutual benefit and the wider benefit of NZ games and game designers.
The first meeting of the New Zealand Games Association was on 5th June 2009 in Auckland. At this meeting, it was decided to form an incorporated society – the New Zealand Games Association. The initial NZGA committee was formed from attendees of the inaugural meeting. The society was officially incorporated in July 2009. The rules of the NZGA include the election of the Committee at the AGM each year.
